SPEAC

Back to System Members

SPEAC (Society for the Protection and Empowerment of Alters of Color) is an internal organization dedicated to advocating for the needs of those in our system with racialized identity components, as well as raising awareness of, encouraging mindfulness of, and providing mutual aid for the struggles that come with having a racialized internal identity in a collectively white body.

Unlike the other groups represented on our council, SPEAC is not a structural grouping, but rather a network consisting of members with shared needs and experiences from across the other groups. Membership is optional, but SPEAC advocates for all members of our system with racialized identity components, not only those on its own roster.

Honorary Chairwoman

Ororo's Avatar

Ororo (she/her)

The first known Black member of our system, who unfortunately bore the brunt of many other system members' initially distressed responses about how those outside the system might react to her. Her struggles became the driving reason for SPEAC's founding, and when the council was first created and it was determined that SPEAC should hold the 12th seat, she was unanimously voted to be its representative. She has since moved on to become Phoenicis's second representative when the Myriad was reorganized into two groups, with Ekko taking her place in SPEAC's council seat.

Council Representative

Ekko's Avatar

Ekko (she/her, he/him)

The first Black character who ever crossed our mind as a possible member of the system, though her arrival wouldn't actually come to pass until Ororo and Mia tested the waters. When Ororo moved on to become a representative for Phoenicis, Ekko was near-unanimously chosen as the best fit to take up the role of SPEAC's representative.
